Yarrow herb (also known by the German name Schafgarbe, Feldgarbe or the scientific name Achillea millefolium) is a plant in the daisy family. The knee-high, perennial yarrow herb plant is common in dry and sunny locations. The aromatic leaves of the yarrow herb are fine and feathery. Yarrow herb is a particularly versatile herb that is valued for its culinary use, among other things. The cut and dried yarrow herb leaves have a spicy aroma that adds a pleasant note to various dishes. Yarrow herb can be used dried as an addition to salads, soups, sauces and marinades.
Use of yarrow:
Another common use is the preparation of a yarrow herb tea. Using a mixture of dried yarrow herb for a sitz bath is also a particularly popular option.
To prepare a yarrow herb tea, pour about 150 ml of boiling water over about a teaspoon of dried yarrow herb and leave to stand for about 10-15 minutes. Then, if necessary, strain the yarrow herb tea. To prepare a sitz bath, use about 100g of dried yarrow in 20 liters of water. The preparation is similar to that for yarrow tea. The yarrow herb can be left in the water for a sitz bath and does not necessarily have to be strained.
