mallow flowers (blue, cut)
Mallow flowers (also known by the German name wild mallow or way-mallow or the scientific name Malva sylvestris and Malva neglecta) are the delicate flowers that grow on the mallow plants and belong to the mallow family. The mallow plant can grow up to one meter tall and is a purple or pale red flowering herb. The mallow plant is native to Europe as a wild plant and is cultivated in and imported from the Balkan countries.
There are different types of mallow with different flower colors such as pink, purple, white or yellow. The petals of the mallow flowers have a unique structure with five petals and striking stamens in the middle. The mallow flowers are usually on long stems and form a striking floral display in gardens or landscapes.
Mallow flowers have a long history of use in the kitchen. Mallow flowers are used in various culinary creations to add a touch of color and flavor to dishes. Mallow flowers are used in salads, for example, or as a garnish and decoration for desserts. Mallow flowers are also particularly popular as mallow flower tea. Mallow flowers are not only flavoring components in many herbal teas, but are also brewed and enjoyed as individual herbs in a tea.
Use of mallow flowers:
To prepare mallow blossom tea, add about 2 teaspoons of dried mallow blossoms to about 180 ml of boiling water for 15 minutes. Depending on the desired intensity of the mallow tea, the brewing time can vary. The mallow blossoms are then strained and the mallow blossom tea can be enjoyed. The mallow tea can be sweetened as desired. Mallow tea is also particularly suitable as a refreshing cold drink.
