corn silk (corn stigma) cut
Corn silk (also known as corn thread or corn pistil) is the delicate and silky beard of the corn cob. The corn silk protrudes from the kernels of the corn plant. The corn cobs bear a large number of thin and long threads. The color of the corn silk can range from light yellow to golden. Corn silk is finely structured, soft and thread-like. In nature, the corn silk serves to protect the ripe corn kernels and helps the plant to pollinate.
The fine and silky structure of the corn silk makes it a special and individual material for artistic and craft projects. In some cultures, the corn silk is used for traditional crafts such as weaving, braiding or knotting. The corn silk can therefore be used to make artistic objects such as baskets, mats, carpets or even paper with a special structure and pattern.
Use of corn silk:
The cut and dried corn silk can also be drunk as a herbal tea. Pour about 2 teaspoons of water into about 150 ml of boiling water, cover and leave to steep for 15 minutes. The corn silk is then skimmed off.
