ginkgo leaves
Ginkgo leaves (also known by the German name, Ginkgo, fan leaf tree, temple tree or the scientific name, Ginkgo biloba) come from the ginkgo tree. The ginkgo tree species is often referred to as a living fossil. The ginkgo is considered to be one of the oldest tree species in the world. The fascinating history of the ginkgo tree is said to go back millions of years. Today, the ginkgo is considered an ornamental tree in many parts of the world, with the ginkgo leaves in particular being a well-known symbol of the ginkgo tree. The ginkgo leaves are native to China and Japan, where they are particularly widespread as street planting. Ginkgo leaves are valued for their special durability and are exported from China, Japan, Korea and France.
The tree's ginkgo leaves have a unique appearance and are therefore easily recognizable. Ginkgo leaves are fan-shaped, oval or oblong and can be a bright green color, which changes to a particularly striking yellow in the fall.
Ginkgo leaves are also used in many different foods. Ginkgo leaves are often used as pure herbal tea or in herbal tea blends. Ginkgo leaves can also often be found as a flavoring in chewing gum or other chewy candies.
Use of ginkgo leaves:
To make the tea, pour boiling water over a teaspoon of chopped and dried ginkgo leaves (or herbal tea blends with ginkgo leaves). The tea infusion should be covered, steeped for 10 minutes and then strained. The ginkgo leaf tea can be sweetened and drunk as desired.
