nettle leaves (chopped)
Nettle (also known as Urticae folium or Urticae herba) is a perennial plant from the nettle family. The nettle plant is native to Europe, Asia and North America and prefers to grow on nutrient-rich soils. These are usually near bodies of water or on roadsides. The nettle leaves are usually egg-shaped, pointed and covered with stinging hairs and bristles.
The applications of nettle leaves are particularly diverse and range from nettle tea to nettle soup.
Nettle leaves are often used as nettle tea. The dried nettle leaves can be used either as pure herbs (herbal tea) or in combination with other dried herbs (herbal tea blend). The dried nettle leaves perfectly round off any herbal tea blend with their nutty aftertaste.
Fresh nettle leaves are particularly suitable as a spring vegetable, for example in soups. However, since their fine hairs can cause unpleasant skin reactions, nettles are boiled and dried beforehand.
Due to the high content of nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus, nettle broth can also be used for the natural fertilization of various house and garden plants.
Use of nettle leaves:
To make nettle leaf tea, add 1-2 heaped tablespoons to half a liter of cold water. Then boil the nettle mixture for a few minutes, stir and strain. Nettle tea can be enjoyed both warm and cold!
