Barberry fruits (sourthorn, dried)
The barberry, also known colloquially as the sour thorn, is a thorny shrub that originally comes from North Africa. It is particularly known for its strongly scented yellow flowers, which develop into long red berries over the course of the year. The sour-tasting barberry fruits, which get their acidity from malic acid and other fruit acids, contain many vitamins, especially vitamin C. While in some countries, for example, barberries are used to season dishes, in this country barberry jams and dried barberries are particularly well-known. The latter taste great on their own and are therefore particularly suitable as a fruity addition to muesli.
