Arnica blossom - Arnica blossom - Arnica mex. whole

The arnica plant (German name: Arnika; Latin: Arnicae mex. Flor. tot.; Botanical: Heterotheca inuloides (Cass.)) comes from the daisy family. The arnica plant is also known as mountain arnica or fall herb. The knee-high plant with orange-yellow inflorescences and smooth leaves is grown in Central and Southern Europe and also in North America. The flowering period of the arnica plant is between June and August, so the flowers are dried for year-round use. Arnica grows in higher areas, between 500 and 3000 meters, and prefers sunny locations on moist meadows or mountain pastures.
Arnica flowers have been used as a medicinal plant in folk medicine for centuries. In earlier years, it was used for external treatments. The active ingredients contained in it, such as flavonoids, sesquiterpene lactones and essential oils, were preserved and made into a medicinal plant. In most cases, the arnica plant or the arnica flowers are mixed into a tincture or ointment, which consists of the flowers and leaves. The tinctures and ointments made from the arnica flower or arnica plant may only be used externally!

Application of arnica flowers

For compresses, one part of the dried arnica flowers is mixed with 12 parts alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) and the same amount of water in a bottle and left to stand for 10 days, stirring or shaking regularly. The flowers contained in it are squeezed out using a linen cloth, for example. After preparation, 2-3 teaspoons of the tincture can be added to around 150 to 200 ml of boiled water. Then place a compress or cotton cloth in the diluted tincture and place it on the desired area.
