Anise (whole) - Anise seeds
Anise is also called sweet caraway and consists of the green, dried seeds of the anise plant. The typical, slightly licorice-like aroma comes from the essential oil anethole. Depending on the variety, anise can taste sweet and aromatic to spicy and bitter. Anise is usually ground and used as a spice for the classic anise biscuits, gingerbread and springerle.
Use:
Anise is not only a good tip for Christmas, it can be found in various spirits such as raki or ouzo, but also in many dishes. Anise is used all year round in aniseed biscuits, bread, tea, red, white and sauerkraut, as well as in fruity or sweet desserts.
Origin: Türkiye
Storage:
Anise should be stored in a cool, dry and ideally airtight place to retain its intense aroma for a particularly long time.
