chamomile flowers (whole)

Chamomile flowers (also known by the German name Kamille and the scientific name: Matricaria recutita (formerly chamomilla)) are delicate and fragrant flowers that come from the chamomile plant and belong to the daisy family. Chamomile flowers often grow in dry, barren locations in Europe, Asia and North Africa. Larger quantities of chamomile flowers are imported from Argentina, Egypt or Croatia.
They are known worldwide, also because of their use in the culinary world. Chamomile flowers give a special flavor to various dishes and drinks.
Chamomile flowers have a unique and distinctive appearance. They consist of small, yellow flower heads arranged in a striking basket shape. The scent of chamomile flowers is mild and floral, and their taste is described as slightly sweet.
A common culinary use of chamomile flowers is to make chamomile tea. The dried flower heads are poured over hot water and left to steep to produce an aromatic tea.
Chamomile flowers are also used in various baked goods. The chamomile flowers can be incorporated into cakes, muffins or cookies or used as a decorative garnish. As a decorative ingredient, the chamomile flower can also beautify many salads with its yellow flower heads.
To flavor syrups, fruit spreads or honey, the chamomile flowers are soaked to impart their chamomile note and flavor. The flavored syrup, spread or honey can be used as a topping for desserts or yogurt.

Use of chamomile flowers:

To make chamomile tea, pour about 180 ml of boiling water over two teaspoons of chamomile flowers. Then cover and leave to steep for about five minutes. After stirring, strain.
The same amount is recommended for chamomile flower compresses, and twice the amount for inhalation, i.e. 4 teaspoons with the same amount of water.
